Webinar - Advances in Dementia Research: Diversifying Research in Alzheimer's Disease - Identifying Risk and Protective Factors In Asian Populations |
In this webinar, Dr. Wai Haung (Ho) Yu of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) will present an overview of genetic and lifestyle risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), including differences between population groups. Dr. Yu will also discusses the Asian Cohort for Alzheimer’s Disease (ACAD) study, which is a North America-wide study that aims to better understand the risk factors associated with developing or having AD based on genetic and non-genetic factors (e.g., diet, lifestyle, blood biomarkers) among older persons of Asian descent. These findings will be compared to other populations that have also been studied. You will have an opportunity to ask questions. About the Speaker Dr. Wai Haung (Ho) Yu is an Independent Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) with appointments in the Brain Health and Imaging Centre and the Geriatric Mental Health Research Division. He is also an Assistant Professor in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on how proteins build up in brain cells in diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and how lived events like cardiovascular or sleep changes impact disease onset and progression. In addition to ACAD, Dr. Yu has an active research program using cell and animal models to identify the mechanisms leading to pathology, and uses this information to guide biomarker and treatment development programs. This webinar is presented in partnership with the Toronto Dementia Research Alliance. If you are interested in attending/organizing this webinar and you/your clients’ preferred language is Cantonese/Mandarin, please provide your contact information to Julie Wong, Education Lead at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto for future presentations.
