Webinar: Advances in Dementia Research Exploring Links Between Sleep, Cognitive Impairment, and Stroke Presented by Dr. Mark Boulos, this webinar will discuss evidence that links sleep disorders with cognitive impairment and stroke. Dr. Boulos will also explain how home sleep testing may improve outcomes in patients with cognitive dysfunction and stroke, and discuss preliminary results from a related study called ‘ENCHANT’. You will have the opportunity to ask questions.
About the presenter:
Dr. Mark Boulos is a Staff Neurologist, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Clinician-Investigator in the Division of Neurology at the University of Toronto and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2006 and completed a residency in Adult Neurology in 2011. After a two-year clinical research fellowship in stroke and sleep neurology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Dr. Boulos continued as a Staff Neurologist in the same institute. During his fellowship training, Dr. Boulos also completed a Master’s Degree which explored the association of sleep disorders with cerebrovascular disease. Dr. Boulos’ area of academic interest is the association of sleep disorders with transient ischaemic attack (TIA, or ‘mini stroke’), stroke, dementia and other neurological disorders. In addition, he has an interest in home sleep monitoring, as well as the automated detection of sleep disorders. He is also exploring novel treatment interventions for managing sleep disorders. In 2020, Dr. Boulos was awarded by the American Academy of Neurology the Wayne Hening Sleep Medicine Investigator Award in recognition of outstanding achievements in Sleep Science research.
